Full Frontal Feminism Precis

Full Frontal Feminism Analysis

Jessica Valenti uses her book, Full Frontal Feminism, to elucidate the problems that women, young women in particular, currently face. She reinforces her argument using a myriad of surveys that provide evidence of the misinformation of women, along with several quotes of extremists whom argue against feminist views. The government, she says, is allowing these misconceptions because the people in power are old men, who are happy with things staying the way they are. Valenti shows the readers that many of the stereotypes that many think are dead and buried are still alive in many ways, and does this in a humorous and informal way that allows young women to read this book cover to cover, without a risk of boredom.

Discussion Questions:

Clarification: If feminism is as simple as the definition that Valenti provided, why do so many people deny being feminist?

Application: Would more men be pro-feminism if the name itself wasn’t so directed towards women?

Clarification: Even though Feminism in the dictionary may seem simple, in reality the situation is more complex. People around the world are diverse in skin, looks, and mind. To some women the idea of feminism may seem attractive but for others the idea is non-attractive.

Application: No, because men view their masculine ways only 100% men. Anything related to women qualities and behaviors seems to feminine.

  2. Clarification: I think it's harder for women to become feminist, because its a life changing decision. being a feminist means that sometimes you have to rebel against the way you were brought up and sometimes women are afraid to do so.

Application: I agree wit Ariella, I don't think men would be, because men want to be dominant anyway, they don't want a woman trying to over-power them.

  3. Question 1: Most people are afraid of the stereotypes placed on feminist thats why they aren't so out with the fact that they are a feminist.

Question 2: I thing that men want to much to controll things to be interested in feminism reguardless to if it was not jus directed tward women.
